A beauty bar can be several things. Beauty bars can be assemblies of products that help you look and feel beautiful. They are perfect for a day of pampering or just relaxing in the evening. However, a more practical version of a beauty bar is a literal beauty bar. This type of beauty bar is a cleansing or cosmetic item that might play a role in your grand beauty bar or can stand on its own as a separate part of your beauty routine.
If you want to have all the relaxing, soothing and beautifying effects of a beauty bar wrapped up in one simple product, then an oatmeal soap beauty bar is the way to go. Some people like to make these from scratch, but you can make an equally effective and fully hypoallergenic oatmeal beauty bar using Dove soap and ground oatmeal. These bars are great for “shower facials” when you do not have time for a full bath-time soak and also make great gifts. Oatmeal is soothing to sensitive and inflamed skin and helps your skin retain moisture for a fuller, more youthful look.
Here are the items you need to make your own customized oatmeal beauty bar:
• Food processor
• Oatmeal
• Dove soap
• Water
• Microwavable bowl
• Wooden spoon
• Grater
• Soap mold (available at arts and crafts stores or you can use a small cooking pan)
First you will need to prepare your ingredients. Chop the oatmeal up in a food processor. The finer you mill the oatmeal, the less grainy your beauty bar will be. Many people like to leave fairly large chunks of oatmeal in the bar though because oatmeal makes a great facial and they feel that they get better effects when the flakes of oatmeal are still visible. Once you have ground up your oatmeal, you can grate the Dove soap into the microwavable bowl. You will need about one bar of Dove for each oatmeal beauty bar that you wish to make. Remember, if you use scented soap, then your beauty bar will also be scented, or you can add essential oils to the mix later.
Add the 5 tablespoons of water and the ground oatmeal to the microwavable bowl. Stir everything together. It will make a thick, lumpy paste that you can microwave. Use the high power setting, and microwave for at least 2 minutes. Watch your mixture closely so that you can remove it if it starts to boil. Stir the mix until it is smooth (add a few drops of essential oils at this point if you wish) and then pour it into the soap mold.
Once you have poured the mixture into the mold, you should let it cool and set. Use a finger or the back of the wooden spoon to test the hardness after about 20 minutes. If you plan to slice up the soap, then you should remove it from the tin when it is solid but still slightly soft. This will make it easier to cut into slices.
You can store your oatmeal beauty bars in a Tupperware or wrap them up in cheese cloth and tie them with a pretty ribbon. They make wonderful gifts as well as being pretty items of bathroom décor until you are ready to use your homemade oatmeal beauty bars.
