Vitamin A is a serious player in the wrinkle cream arena . Of course, every product would like you to believe that it will smooth away wrinkles. In fact, many employ deceptive tactics to make you think that they are working. These include adding small pieces of glitter to wrinkle removing creams. The glitter reflects light out of the creases in your skin. This makes it appear that the wrinkles have “disappeared.” Of course, when you wash your face you also wash away your new, youthful skin.
If you are playing the anti-aging game for keeps, then you need to know about vitamin A. Vitamin A is also called retinol. It is used to literally erase wrinkles. This process can take a few days or even a week or two. Do not fear though. You will see a difference.
Retinol causes skin to stay elastic. In addition, it can help your skin keep moisture. It can even, in some cases, be used to “plump” wrinkles so that they are stretched full, tight and smooth.
However, retinol also has some associated complications that you need to be aware of. The biggest is sun sensitivity. Taking vitamin A or using it topically can make you very sensitive to the sun. You could burn just from walking around the block on a sunny day. Of course, if you are worried about fighting wrinkles then you have no business outside without a sunblock on your face anyway!
In addition, retinol can create issues for people with very sensitive skin. Common effects (other than the disappearance of wrinkles) are breakouts and dry skin. However, these are actually often found to be the results of “over-doing” the vitamin A treatments. If you are worried, then test your vitamin A product on the inside of your elbow. Place a small dab on there twice a day for a week. If you do not have any redness or inflammation then you should be just fine. However, watch your skin and pay attention to the way it feels and looks to be sure that you are in good shape.
This brings me to my final “warning.” Follow the directions! Vitamin A is not for people who just want to slather on any old moisturizer and feel good about “protecting” their skin. It is for people who don’t play around when it comes to beauty. Vitamin a can permanently erase wrinkles in many cases, so make sure that you are using it to get the best effects possible.
